We recently encountered a situation with a 2006 BMW 650i here at Steinway Auto Repair, a central mechanic shop for BMW Repair in Astoria. The owner of the BMW experienced a blown engine, complete with damaged valves, pistons etc when the car overheated. Overheating is one of the most common issues BMW owners encounter, and there are several reasons for it. Coolant leaks leading to low coolant levels, and issues with the cooling system can cause your BMW to overheat. The 2006 BMW 650i has a 4.8 litre, 8-cylinder 32 valve engine with 360 horsepower and 360 lbs of torque. The car was in excellent condition and the owner wanted to keep it. Over the years the car has had about six recalls, with the most common one being the Positive Battery Cable Connection in the Trunk Can Overheat.
In this case, the only solution was to replace the engine. A new engine was ordered. When received the expert mechanics began the task of removing the old engine and replacing it with the new one. Removing the old engine entailed disconnecting it from all the other sections (transmission etc.) first. Then a small lift was used to physically take it out from under the hood.
The new engine, when received, had to be prepped and parts of it assembled together before putting on a lift and then installing under the hood of the car and connecting it up to other parts such as the transmission etc.
