We offer a variety of auto ac services including:
We recommend servicing your car’s AC prior to the summer before the traffic increases and you are forced to drive in the blistering New York City heat on crowded roads in stop and go traffic.
Pressure is extremely important to your car’s AC system, with the system kept closed and pressurized by hoses and lines. Sealing rings, known as O rings, which are specifically made to withstand either extremely low or high temperatures are at the end of those lines.
As these O rings age or get damaged, they allow the refrigerant in your vehicle AC to leak out causing the pressure in your car’s AC system to decrease via these leaks. As these leaks increase in number, the pressure in the system becomes lower and too low to turn on the car’s air conditioner compressor.
Another reason that a vehicle’s air conditioning unit fails is because of the condenser. If the pressure in your system is too high, the vehicle may shut down the system to prevent further damage. If the condenser is leaking, the level of refrigerant may become too low for the AC to work at all.
Another reason is the compressor. Typically, compressors should last the life of the vehicle, however the bearings and seals can wear out, or the compressor parts can become corroded.
If the air conditioning compressor on the vehicle continues to wear out, then the drive belts or pulleys or another part may be the issue creating stress on the compressor.
At Steinway Auto Repair, our certified mechanics will inspect your system and perform your car AC repair if necessary.Be mindful if you’ve been told that your car needs a new compressor.
Compressors are not regular maintenance items that need to be changed. They are built to last a very long time, perhaps the life of the car if routine maintenance of your car AC system is kept. In many instances, the problem is the condenser and not the compressor.
If the condenser is the problem upon inspection, we will recommend replacing it with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) parts before addressing anything with the compressor. If the problem resolves by replacing the condenser, then no need to touch the compressor.
The Air Conditioning box drain will need to be inspected. The vehicle will need to be lifted up to view the drain. If there is antifreeze coming out of the drain, then the problem is a leaking heater core. Only water should be present. If the Air conditioning unit was on and no condensation was present, then the drain may be clogged and need to be cleaned out. Clogged drains are cleared by pressurized air.
So, if the problem is a heater core, then it will need to be replaced. A clogged air conditioning drain can be cleared. At Steinway Auto Repair, we do both for our customers as part of car air conditioning service
At Steinway Auto Repair, we have the proper diagnostic equipment to detect leaks and allow for the proper car AC repairs to the system. While doing that, we also vacuum test the air conditioning system to assess the condition of other seals and make sure they do not fail in the near future.
It is also important to ensure that the refrigerant and oil is maintained at factory level so that the car AC unit functions properly.
In the event that the AC compressor fails, we are able to replace it, though we always look at the condenser first for problems.
